Another Update

The OSR seems to be losing no steam as a whole new wave of really stellar old school Dungeons and Dragons type games come out.  I have been playing and running OSE and its a refreshing blast.  I am excited to play Shadowdark soon, it looks really really good.  I have also downloaded the Grimwild book from DriveThruRPG so I can see how it might work with more narrative rules because I really love Scum and Villainy and Blades in the Dark.  If you notice something going on with all the linking you are right.  These are all great games you should check out if you like Beacon.  Its a great time to be into this hobby and there is really no shortage of good material out there.

That's my cue to segue and say that I'm deciding to put Beacon on hold for an indefinite period.  I'm pretty proud of Beacon and may revisit it in the future to play with it a bit or steal ideas, but honestly I don't need to continue with pretending there will be updates, which have been pretty far between and unpublished anyway.

Even the name Beacon has been co-opted by some upstart young thugs fine people looking to build a new fantasy RPG system.  Good on them, its a great name and they are leaning into the aspirational aspect for a title which is also a theme in the game, and that's good design. I'm not taking the blog down or removing the roll20 character sheet for these hotdogs folks, but I am not going to muddy up the waters by posting any more helpful reminders to try my Beacon Classic.  Go check out Beacon TTRPG, it looks great.

I would still love to hear about it if anyone uses the Beacon rules to run a game, or if anyone out there is using the Roll20 character sheet. I love that sheet, it was a buttload of pain and fun making it.  It was also the biggest reason I wasn't pushing updates to the rules, because I was worried about changing the sheet on people mid-game.  I wish that there was a way to get sheet usage statistics on Roll20 to find these things out, but I also see how that could be a PITA for everyone too.  If you have landed here because of that sheet do check out the past posts to find out what Beacon is and how it came to be.  Also check out the blog roll to the right, some of these folks are still posting, and even the ones that aren't might have something interesting to you in their old archives.

So I might post here again at some point, I might not.  In the meanwhile we will play some games.
