Beacon fifth draft

Here is the fifth draft of Beacon.

In this update you will find a bunch of changes which I thought would improve the game after play testing the previous version with a small group of folks. I think the major highlights in this version are the combat split into missile and melee phases, and the changes to the non-magic using classes.

I hope to get long play out of this one and very much hope that I can promote these rule to the first real release version of Beacon if it manages to last through lots more scrutiny and play testing.

Please let me know how it works out for you.

  2. Something of note:

"When wielding two weapons the character must add together the strength requirement of both weapons and add 6 (minSTR+minSTR/2)+6 to calculate a melee penalty." ~ pg 9 of Beacon (v5)

The formula, and the corresponding examples confirm, that it is the average of the two plus six, but the wording does not mention this.

  3. Finished reading the fifth incarnation of Beacon. Awesome work! Can't wait to play-test it this Christmas! I will let you know how it goes. Maybe throw a review up on my blog if you would like?

    As always,

  4. Yes I would love reviews for Christmas - I have plenty of rum and brandy on hand to celebrate and/or dull the pain.
